Our Story

Why The Daily Bread Project began

The Daily Bread Project began with a burden to stand with widows, families, and communities when ordinary needs become heavy, and to offer help in a way that protects dignity.

Standing with families when daily needs become too heavy to carry alone.

In many of the communities we serve, daily life is shaped by challenges that many of us rarely have to think about. Food, clean water, electricity, and steady support are not always easy to access. For families already carrying heavy responsibilities, these basic needs can become daily concerns.

In parts of Africa, access to essential services remains limited, especially in rural and underserved areas. Millions of people still live without reliable electricity, and many families continue to rely on distant or unsafe water sources for drinking, cooking, and daily hygiene. Food insecurity also remains a serious challenge across the region, creating additional pressure for households that are already vulnerable.

For widows, these challenges can feel even heavier. After the loss of a spouse, many women are left to provide for their children, care for elderly family members, manage the home, and meet daily needs with limited resources.

The Daily Bread Project exists to stand in that gap with compassion, dignity, and practical support. We do not see the people we serve as helpless. We see strength, resilience, and courage.

Sunday Rax

Founder and Executive Director

Sunday Rax founded The Daily Bread Project from a deep belief that practical compassion can help families breathe again when daily needs become overwhelming.

Her background in finance, ministry, entrepreneurship, and community advocacy shapes the way the organization serves: with dignity, wise stewardship, faith, and care that meets real needs without making people feel small.

Sunday also brings hands-on nonprofit experience from serving as an administrative assistant, where she supported donation tracking, board meeting coordination, compliance responsibilities, and the careful behind-the-scenes work that helps an organization serve with accountability.

Through this work, Sunday brings together donors, partners, and local leaders to stand with widows and underserved families as they move from urgent relief toward renewed hope and stability.

Why I Couldn’t Look Away

When I visited Nigeria and surrounding areas last year for two weeks, I saw families doing their best with far less than many of us are used to having. Things we often move through the day without thinking about, like food, clean water, light, Wi-Fi access, and steady support, were not always easy to reach. My heart ached because the need was real, but so was the strength of the people I met. I came home knowing I could not just feel moved and move on. I had to help make a difference.

Mission

The Daily Bread Project exists to stand with widows and underserved communities in the moments that matter most. When access to food, clean water, or light is uncertain, even the smallest support can bring relief, restore dignity, and renew hope. We are committed to meeting these everyday needs with compassion.

Vision

We envision communities where widows and families have access to essential resources for stable daily living.

Why We Exist

We exist because no family should feel invisible when life becomes heavy. A meal, a light, safe water, or a trusted person showing up can bring more than temporary relief. It can remind someone that their life still matters, their dignity is worth protecting, and hope can begin again in small, practical ways.

Faith that shows up

Our faith calls us to notice people, listen with compassion, and respond with love. Prayer is part of our heart, but so is showing up with care that helps a family feel seen, respected, and less alone. We serve with humility and welcome people with dignity, regardless of background.
